Why we love Newcastle Ocean Baths
Historic and dramatic, Newcastle Baths is one of the city’s most unique wedding locations. The ocean pool, heritage pavilions, and striking coastal scenery create a backdrop that’s both adventurous and romantic. From bold, architectural shots to intimate beachside portraits, it’s a venue that gives us endless creative possibilities — the kind of setting where your wedding story feels truly one of a kind.
About the ocean baths
Newcastle Ocean Baths sit at the end of Newcastle Beach, with heritage pavilions and an ocean pool that waves wash into at high tide. Further south, the larger Merewether Ocean Baths opened in 1935. Both are among the most striking coastal backdrops in the city.
Booking
The City of Newcastle requires an event licence for events at its beaches and ocean baths, apart from small, informal events. Bookings go through council customer service. Merewether Ocean Baths are closed all day on Thursdays for cleaning, so avoid Thursday photo plans there.
Photo spots we look for
The pavilion architecture, the pool edge and the surf breaking over the wall make for bold, graphic portraits. Sunrise and late afternoon give the softest light. Jasmin & Jye’s wedding paired Merewether Surfhouse with the baths.
