Choose a band, a DJ or both, and an MC to keep the night on time. Keep speeches to a few minutes each, ideally between courses, and open the dance floor while your photographer is still there.

Lesson notes

Music, speeches and the dance floor

Now the part of the night that gets everyone on their feet. Music, speeches and the dance floor.

Band, DJ, or both

A band brings energy you can see. A DJ can play anything, without breaks. Many couples have a band early in the night and a DJ to finish.

Keeping the night on time

A good MC keeps the night on time: entrances, speeches, the cake and your first dance. Give them the timeline, and the names that are hard to say.

Short speeches, warm light

Keep speeches to a few minutes each, ideally between courses. And ask your DJ for warm, simple dance-floor lights. Coloured lasers turn skin green in photos.
