Write everyone down, sort them into groups, then make an A-list and a B-list. Decide early on children and plus-ones so the rules are the same for everyone.

Building your guest list

Stage three is your guest list. Let's build it without the family drama.

Write everyone down

Start by writing everyone down, without judging. Then sort them into groups: each side's family, friends, and work.

An A-list and a B-list

Next, make an A-list of people you cannot imagine the day without, and a B-list of people who would be lovely to have if numbers allow.

Kids and plus-ones

Decide early on children and plus-ones, and apply the same rule to everyone. A clear rule is much easier to explain than a list of exceptions.
